I have the latest version of Sendy (1.1.6.3). I'm trying to create the FirstName, fallback= Personalization tag and have not succeeded in getting it to work. Please advise.

Amazon EC2 & Sendy
I'm currently using MailChimp to manage and send out newsletters to a list of nearly 80k subscribers. I'm interested in using Sendy, along with Amazon EC2.
Can someone guide me on how to setup Amazon EC2 to work with Sendy. Is there a guide out there?
I'm not familiar with how to setup Amazon EC2, at all.

Installed Sendy and getting blank page on installation URL.

Allow user to change From Address in a campaign
I want to be able to allow a user to change the From Address in a campaign. currently when they login the from address isn't changeable. I see not being able to change the From Address is a 'feature' but we have verified a domain level with Amazon SES thus it would be nice to able to set a preference to allow or disallow the change of the From Address, is this possible ? Weird character when export subscribers list
dear Sendy support,
My Sendy install: - version 1.1.6.3 - charset = 'utf16' (because i using Vietnamese)
In Sendy tools, character display ok, like "Trực", "Hà"...
But when I saw in phpmyadmin, table "subscribers" show strange character like Trá»±c, HÃ. Or I export that subscribers list, in cvs file, i still saw that strange character.
I want to when export subscribers list, I saw exactly what i see in Sendy tool

Weird problems during first live test
foreword: all features of sendy are working during tests.
now in a new list -> import over 70k subscribers csv with cronjob : duration ~4h <--- unbelievable long
sending a newsletter with extended amazon ses (28mails/s - 100k/24h) : duration ~16h <--- unbelievable long
Amazon registered over 40 complaints -> none of them registered in sendy neither in the list nor in the campaign, but i saw the calls in access logs
Amazon registered over 15 bounces -> 21 are tracked in the list, none of them in the campaign, but i saw calls in access logs
several hours after sending completed i see bounce / complaint calls from amazon, but none of them is registering by sendy
the only working thing, hopefully, opened / clicks and unsubscribers
no errors in any system/software its weird, because all tests are successful
another weird thing, during the sending process i got the message: bounces and complaints are not set up, but in all tests ago these message doesnt appear and these things were set! double and triple-checked
i canceled the sending because of faith for not tracking bounces and complaints, so i tried it several times, on the 3. or 4. try this sending popup isnt show anymore, instead there was a green box with the message: campaign sending ....

Roadmap for Sendy's REST APIs
I bought Sendy yesterday. Managed to tweak it to make it successfully run on Windows Azure (yes we are aware its not supported). We plan using Sendy as back-end and use its functionality (via REST APIs) to make the functionality available through our .NET application, thus making it immaterial as to where sendy is hosted. Even In long run, it would be difficult to keep managing upgrades on Windows (unless you decide to release a version for Windows).
So I would like to know the roadmap for Sendy and its API and also I am thinking to get Sendy installed and configured on Azure Linux VM. We have no experience with Linux and wondering if someone can help us.

Manage Unsubscriptions
Hi,
I have a custom field which classifies users in to three categories. Now few emails are sent to all 3 categories and few to all categories.
For sending to a individual category, I download the complete list and then upload the required category in a new list. Now problem here is that when i download a list, I do not receive bounce and unsubscribe information.
I do not want to delete the bounce and unsubscribe from the main list as i manually upload the subscribers from multiple sources, so i do not want to add users who have unsubscribe or are bounced.
So now I need a way to get the unsubscribe and bounce data while downloading a list.

Can sendy send 2 Million Emails per day
Hello Sendy Team,
Firstly, I am happy that Sendy is doing amazing. I have few questions regarding scaling up.
- Will I be able to send 2 Million emails per day. I know Amazon SES has a cap on sending quota. Will I able to increase to 2 Million?
- Is Sendy can scale up to send 2 Million from its platform?

MX records
Hi there,
I've successfully installed and configured Sendy to use Amazon SES, using your easy-to-follow instructions.
One thing that I've not yet come across in either your or Amazon's instructions is setting up the MX records and any associated email accounts.
Q1: What should my 'sending domain' MX record be set to?
Q2: Do I need to setup any email accounts for the email address that I'm sending from?
To put this in some context:
An application that I currently use, says to setup an account for the 'From address' and bounce@ is piped to the application's unsubscribe script. I've not seen anything similar in Sendy... some people don't unsubscribe using an unsubscribe link, instead reply to the email and include 'Unsubscribe' or 'Remove me from your mailing list' in the body of the email. As the email list owner you have to process these type of unsubscribes manually.
Your help is most most appreciated.

Warning: strftime(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings.
Recently during a routine update to Plesk, the server that I use for Sendy suffered an issue. You troubleshooted for me and we solved a problem whereby I could not log in to Sendy, and with your advice my hosting company has now been able to make it so that I can log in.
However, from the moment that I have been able to log in, I'm getting these errors from autoresponders.php which is triggered each minute via cron:
Warning: strftime(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are required to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'Europe/Berlin' for 'CEST/2.0/DST' instead in /var/www/vhosts/example.com/another-example.com/autoresponders.php on line 60
I also get the same error but the only difference is that the last line reads:

In the database my user (in fact all users) has 'Europe/London' in the timezone field of the login table

MySql crashing after sending
Hello,
Since few days I have a weird issue. After (or during ? ) sending a campaign I cannot access to the sendy App, and I have to manually restart MySql to be able to login again.
Any tips/suggestions where to look at ? All my table are using InnoDB, haven't seen anything special in the logs. thx!

Possible bug: Client can change 'email' address via Settings to another email (which already exists)
If I create 2 'Brands' like this:
Brand 1: ABC with username: hello@abc.com
Brand 2: XYZ with username hello@xyz.com
The client (owner of brand 1) can then click 'Settings' and change his email address to hello@xyz.com. Both usernames are now in the 'login' table with no disambiguation. Perhaps brand-owners should not be allowed to change login name?

Sending campaign on server without cron support
I would like to show a solution I found to fix my problem. Since my server do not support Cron. All the time the campaign was freezing every 300/400 sent emails. And I had to reload and click in "continue". I made this.
In file "app.php":

Amazon SES account suspended due to high bounce rate
I got a list to send these emails, and my account was suspended.
Do you know how I can make these tests before send the emails? Is there php way I could test the emails before send them? Or a software to do this.
So I can have a low bounced emails. Cause I cant control the email lists, people just send me lists to send

Unable to get SES Quota from Amazon after Installation
We finally able to install Sendy on our shared hosting. However still have to 'sync server clock with NTP'. Contacted the hosting personnel, they said their server is always in sync. We sure our AWS credentials are correct. Have no idea what to do next except heading here. Please help on where should we go to resolve this challenges.

Extra emails sent on last campaign after update...
We recently upgraded our sendy version to 1.1.6.3 and setup our email like normal and sent out the email to our 2 "lists" like normal. These 2 lists each contain about 65,000 different emails for a total send of about 135k emails going out. Weird thing is when I checked the email details later in the evening Sendy said it sent out 222,880 emails and Amazon SES says the same. When I view the campaign stats, it shows emails only went to the 2 different lists so where did the extra 90,000 emails come from? The sad part is our "spam count" and unsubscribe rate also doubled for this campaign since people were getting 2 emails -- thankfully our "numbers" of those are still very low.
What can I look at to dig and see what happened? I have another email to send out and don't want to double up on emails again.
FYI our server is a AWS C1.medium running debian (PHP Version 5.3.3-7+squeeze15). As for Sendy patches we send out subscriber emails about once ever 10-12 days and have religiously upgraded each time prior to sending when their was a new patch/upgrade available.

Russian characters become question marks
A fresh install of Sendy will create latin1 tables and databases, it seems, so I understand why it cannot store cyrillic characters. Is there a way to make it use utf8?
Can I trust that cyrillic emails will be sent with the correct encoding, and be readable in the different mail clients?
