MySQL Indexes on subscribers.email and subscribers.list

I know you said no multiple times on threads that are now closed, but we can't find no reason why this wouldn't be an improvement worth of including in the next version.

We did this in our install after seeing imports hang and never finish, and it doesn't seem to slow down subscriber inserts and updates. To the contrary, a simple index on the email field significantly speeds up CSV imports and subscriber additions (like 20-50 times the speed, for a subscribers table of 200k subscribers on an EC2 micro instance, from 3-5 subscribers every second to around 100 subscribers per second), and the list index significantly speeds up the Lists page (again, like 20-50 times or more).

It should also make subscriber imports and updates faster, since you locate the subscriber by e-mail, and without an index that will take much longer to locate.

(If I'm not mistaken, the only way indexes would slow down the app is if you indexed a field that needs to be editable. Subscribers' e-mails and list IDs never get updated, thus the index is not changed except for new records).


Cannot change admin password

Hi,

I just tried to change my admin password on a new install. I went to settings and typed in the new password then saved the page. I got the message "Email already exist, please use another email address". The new password was not accepted. Any ideas? Can I change it another way?

How to handle the comma after name when fallback

In my campaign I often include name if the name exists, but omit the name if not. However, when including the name, I will put a comma after the name. How can I remove the comma when the name does not exist?

e.g.

Hi, [Name, fallback=],

Send mail immediately after cron is setup

I noticed that after cron is setup, the 'send now' actually becomes 'send when the next cron job is running', which can be 5 min from now. This will generate confusion from my clients, as they have no idea when their emails will be sent, and why the "preparing" takes so long.

Is there way to really send now? Or at least tell the user when exactly the mail will be sent?

Paste content to the wysiwyg editor?

I find the Ctrl-V shortcut, or the context menu does not paste content to the editor. Is there a way to enable paste?

Updating to 1.1.7.3 stopped supporting non-ASCII fields in brands/campaigns

I have upgraded right now Sendy to 1.1.7.3 and the result of it is all the Russian names in brands/brands data are now displayed garbled every character is displayed as if ASCII is in effect , not Unicode).

When I have tried to replace it with Russian strings once again, I only saw question marks in text fields.

Looks like the upgrade has destroyed Unicode support for certain fields.

Updated: better subject set.

What I am expected to do now?

Custom Subscription pages

Is it possible using the Sendy API and PHP to create my own custom subscription pages and not display the "subscribed" or "unsubscribe" dialogs. I don't want the user to ever leave the site and depending on where they are signing up from I don't even want to give them a confirmation. I wanted to make sure this is possible before I spend too much time diving into this only to find out it's not possible.

Pysendy - Python wrapper for Sendy's API

Hello,

I've created a Python wrapper for Sendy's API.

To use, install it using pip:

pip install pysendy

In Python code, it is as simple as:

from pysendy import Sendy s = Sendy(base_url='http://your_sendy_url') s.subscribe(email='email@to.subscribe', list_id='the_list_id')

At the moment, only 'subscribe' function is implemented.

Can't setup bounces on all my second email

Hi,

I have a 2 brand setup with 2 differents emails. Both are confirmed.

With one, everything is fine : Bounces and complaints With the second one : complaints is fine but I cannot get Bounces to work. Here's the error email I get :

Stylesheet is my number one link in campaign

I sent a campaign with multiple links to my recipients. The number one link clicked was http:// (domain) /stylesheets/mailstyle.css

I received a perfect copy of the intended campaign, but I am not sure why link to CSS stylesheet is being clicked. This link is not even in the email.

Using v 1.1.6.3 on OSX, Safari, latest builds.

Possible to sync my app and campaign prior to sending?

I would like to sync my app and campaign prior to sending newsletter. I preview the newsletter on Sendy, edit it on my website, then send on Sendy. However, I notice those edits do not show up in newsletter once received. Is it possible to have the API to "fix" this?

Making Amazon AWS/SES + Sendy + GoDaddy work together

Domain and e-mail (and web) hosting from GoDaddy, AWS and SES from Amazon (e-mails/domains all now verified, sandbox exit granted, bounces/complaints verified), Sendy paid for and installed at domain, test e-mails can be sent and received from AWS console (as well as to/from GoDaddy webmail).

The problem where I seem to be stuck now is that while I can create new campaigns and lists within my URL/Sendy installation, when I go to send the test 'newsletter' (the word 'test' in subject and again in body) I'm told that bounces/complaints handling need to be set up (yet appear green/verified when I go back to check, again and again) and clicking 'Send anyway' doesn't seem to make any difference. I've tried various combinations of different e-mails (Gmail addresses, my new URL now hosting Sendy), campaigns, lists, list names, deleting lists, making new lists, nothing seems to help get around the 'go set up bounces/complaints' message which doesn't add up with the bounces/complaints handling message Amazon keeps giving me.

Also, I tried sending to a fake e-mail address in hopes of getting a bounceback message, no luck there either. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?a

Campaign sent to less recipients

Hi, my campaign has sent to just over 4k recipients, while my list is just under 10k. This is also indicated in the 'subscriber lists'. I know that sendy doesnt sent to double email addresses between lists so have i made a mistake in my lists and is this why it has only send to part of the list? Or is there something else going on? I did press resume once after it had stopped sending for a while. Shortly after this i got the 'campaign sent' email.

Is it possible to check the email sent and not sent-to email addresses? I read somewhere on here that I can, but i havent found the option. Maybe because it things it is succesfull in sending the full list?

Auto PayPal redirect

Hi there,

When my clients are going through the PayPal process, the emails won't be sent unless the user clicks the 'Return to XXXXXXXX' link on the PayPal 'Thanks for your order' confirmation page.

In other words, if they do not click this link, the email always stays in a state of 'draft' in Sendy, and never moves on to 'Pending'.

I would like it if my clients were able to miss this step and did not HAVE TO click this link and were automatically connected back to my Sendy install.

I seem to remember reading about this somewhere, but for the life of me I cannot track it down.

Your help would be really appreciated.

Does Adding an Autoresponder Immediate message go to all past members who were added to the list?

I am wanting to add an autoresponder message to go out to members who will be coming onto my list between a certain time frame today. I'm wondering; if I add an autoresponder message to a list and set it to go out immediately upon being added to the list, will the message go out only to new people being added to the list, or will it go out to all of the people who are already on my list as well?

AFAIK, Sendy does not implement any kind of control over the actions than clients can perform, aside from those directly associated to charging them.

In my organization, I can't always trust that our clients will always do "the right thing". For instance, I am pretty sure that a lot of clients will simply delete the addresses that bounced or complained on one of their campaings. This would be okay per se, but I am also pretty sure that someone will simply re-upload the whole list of subscribers (including the bounced and deleted ones) some time later, just because they've added a couple of addresses there. This is when things would go very wrong, with sendy trying to deliver more emails to the bouncing or complaining addresses.

Hence, I would like to ask you to implement some permission controls that allowed the admin to prevent clients from performing certain functions. My initial list of such permissions is:

  • Disallow importing new addresses
  • Disallow e-mail removal from list (yet allow unsubscription)
  • Disallow manual confirmation of users
  • Disallow switching from double-optin to optin for their lists
  • Disallow addition of new lists

My clients would then have to contact us to perform this actions. This would allow us to implement and follow proper policies to ensure that our SES account doesn't get compromised by badly behaving clients.

Geocoding not working

Hi,

All of my opens are tracking as EU. I haven't looked into the code to see how you're doing geocoding.

Could the fact that my apache server is behind an nginx reverse proxy have something to do with it? I'm using rpaf (http://stderr.net/apache/rpaf/) on my apache server to get the forwarded ips from the nginx reverse proxy, and those show up fine in the apache logs.
